I'm currently planning a lake to lake trip. Dove Lake to Lake St Clair to Khuvsgul Lake to lake Baikal.
That should cover the deepest lakes in the world and in Australia. Of course this will involve some more tripping around or floating in my current favourite lake---the Mediteranean Sea.
Now do I ride my bike and take my snorkel and mask ?? Doh!! Or both!!!
Lake St Clair is 167 m deep. It is shallow when compared to the worlds deepest lake. lake Baikal is 1637m deep. Ten times deeper than Lake St Clair. Australia's deepest Lake is located on a fault line ( a V- shaped fracture on the surface created by the movement of tectonic plates). During periods of of glaciation this fracture was gouged out by the action of ice. Later when the glaciers retreated, the now U-shaped valley filled with ice melt and rain.
