And you thought it was all about me???

Thanks to Brian and his challenge letter D, my eDUCATIon is now complete.

Today I visited the Ducati factory in Bologna. I booked a factory tour, loved that and also had time to visit their Museum and a local dealer who had a great show room and accessories department.

Unfortunately they do not allow anyone to take photos in the factory, so all my snaps are from the Museum.

Three brothers started the factory in 1926 and the brand just keeps getting stronger and stronger. Sales increased by nearly 20% last year, thanks largely to the Scrambler and the Monster.

First bikes were single cylinder, then twins which they still produce and have just recently started to produce the four cylinder modelled on the success of their MotoGP engine.

Hailwoods bike, they had all the champions bikes including Stoner (below) and Troy Bayliss and Troy Corser. Not Rossi even though he rode for Ducati he didn't win them a championship.

So today was all about Ducati!!   The factory tour took you along the assembly lines and we saw firstly the engines being assembled, then the frame is attached and swinging arm etc. They are very proud of their quality control and each person that works on an engine/bike has an electronic signature on it, so if their is a problem it can be traced back.    We saw engines being tested, and bikes ready for shipment. Some of the production lines were covered as they are for bikes not released onto the market. Also MotoGP development was out of bounds for us. They were actually working on one of Dovis engines while we were there.    I loved all the background thinking and planning that goes into the logistics of their assembly lines. Quite similar to when I did my Triumph factory tours about ten years ago. Both brands now produce or assemble about 20% of their bikes in Thailand. It was a fascinating day, all about Ducati!!

my Ducati scarf is very versatile, dress, nightie, scarf, shawl, table cloth, towel, sheet, sunshade, sarong, etc. It is black and white so maybe I can wear it to Kiwi Bee's birthday bash next year??
