Medjugorje is in Bosnia, very close to the Croatian border.
Since 1981, when six local children claimed they had seen visions of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Medjugorje has become an unapproved destination of Catholic pilgrimage and has thousands of visitors every day. An open air altar has been built to help cater for the 'masses'.
The Main Street of Medjugorje is jam packed full of Catholc souvenirs. I spent my visit there with a lovely Irish couple. We bought souvenirs and had them blessed by a priest, who also blessed us.
