Bat Flattery

dang!! And I was already for an early start this morning.

Beacause I have so many straps and belts and stretchies securing my panniers to the bike, sometimes rather than remove all of that and carry my panniers, they are cumbersome, up to my room, and believe me my room is always up stairs!!  Just as well I've got 'stair legs'!!

When I arrived at the multi storey Plitvice guest house three days ago I decided just to take my toilet bag, blue walking shoes and a change of clothes out of the panniers and leave them tied onto the bike. Much simpler, very clever I thought.

This morning I just had to put those few things back in the zip up compartment of the pannier and I'd be away early. Brekkie on the road and an early visit to the Nicola Tesla memorial centre, to try and beat the crowds, then get to my accom on the coast with time for a swim before it got dark.

What did they say about best laid plans. . . . . .?

ive said all my goodbyes and ready to take off. Turn the key. Nothing. Hmmm. Check on off switch, try key again. Nothing. No click, no lights, no nothing. Hold on, the gps is blank too. I manually turn it on and it shows low battery signal. So I deduce it has flattened the bike battery.

So what do I do?  I have to undo all the straps and belts and buckles around the panniers to remove them. Remove the bike seat to access the battery, so that the kind Branco, guest house manager can attach his battery charger. So I wait.  He offers me breakfast while I wait. That's a nice gesture

In  the meantime I check emails to find my accom tonight will not be ready until 8 pm. I hope I am there by then.

A cool change made the first hour of riding very pleasant. It was already the middle of the day!! I enjoyed the Tesla visit and learned a lot about his life from it.

Back to the coast down a great little road and then I caught my first ferry trip, other than to moroccco and back. I then road the full length of the island of PAG, I've never seen so many magnificent dry stone walls, some were 2.5 m high. Beautiful. Mind you there is little else on the island, barring beach resorts.

The battery has not faltered once all day and when I got to my accomodation tonight I took the GPS of the bike before I did anything else!!!
