I'm being economical here and combining two challenges with the one activity.
The lovely ladies from ALPS in Mount Beauty want to see this.
None of this was easy. There are 16 different regions (cantons) in Switzerland and each has its own traditional costume. Then each costume is for Sunday best or for working. Once I got to know some of the girls I work with I then mentioned my challenge and asked if they'd be able to help me. Thankfully after much to-ing and fro-ing Miriam was able to source a costume for me from one of her friends. The costumes from the Davos region are generally in brown tones, thankfully Miriam's friend is from a region closer to Germany and this is what she wears when going out for a fondue! It was a bit of a gamble if it was going to fit me. They are designed to be figure hugging, and it was but left me little room for breathing, let alone gardening. Maybe the two pairs of socks I stuffed in my bra, to make me look more authentic, had something to do with that!!
And then Marks initial challenge ( letter b) for me was to swim in the Blue Grotto on Gozo Island off Malta. Then as an after thought he came up with the idea that I should learn to yodel while I'm in Switzerland. This is the best I could come up with.
Many thanks to sound engineer, Maria
Postscript: The local Davos community put on a concert last night showcasing their traditional folklore. Singing, dancing, music and flag twirling. Brilliant.
This video gives you a better ide of the traditional costumes from the Davos region. Some are Sunday best, others weekday work clothes.
I'd not heard an alpenhorn played before. Hauntingly beautiful. The flag throwing is quite some skill.
And now for some more yodelling. . . . .
